"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?...Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly;" 2 Cor 9:24-26

Take a Seat, Make a Friend

You never know what asking simple questions, sometimes seemingly random ones, may lead to. What would happen if we started talking with strangers and asking them questions? What opportunities would we get? How would it shine our light?

Tonal Importance

I was reminded today that your tone is reflecting in other people as you speak with them. If you are harsh, they will be as well. If you are gentle, they may follow suit. If you are laid back, likely they will seem laid back. It is important that we are careful about the words we choice and thoughtful about the tone in which we say them. Perhaps that is what it means in Colossians 4:6 when we are instructed to “let your speech be always with grace”. Our tone needs to be one of grace. We also in Ephesians 4:15 are instructed to speak the truth in love. Our speech should have the tone of love.

Take thought to what you say and also take thought to how you say it.

Encouraging Words

I was reminded today about the power of encouraging words. They can lift a hurting spirit or strength a waning soul. You may never know how much an encouraging word can mean to someone. I know a lot of people have said encouraging things to me over the years and probably have no clue how much they blessed me. It does not take much time or effort to say a few words of encouragement but the results can last for eternity.

I would challenge you to say a few encouraging words to someone today. Be sincere and lift someone’s spirits.

Totally Like Whatever, You Know?

There is a lot of truth in this creative presentation of Taylor Mali’s poem Totally Like Whatever, You Know? and a worthwhile challenge as well.

Encouragement is a powerful thing. I was feeling down this evening. Several mistakes I’ve made in the past showed themselves, again, and life seemed discouraging. While feeling down, I was reminded of the power of an encouraging word and a little praise through a short video I saw and personal experience as I felt the lift encouragement gives to your spirit. I was working on a project when I came across part of a note that was written to me over two and half years ago. It was just a few lines, but a few lines is all it takes. I treasure that note, it has encouraged me many times. The writer doesn’t know how much it has meant to me. A few encouraging and positive words can go a long way. You may never know how far your encouragement reaches and how long it has an influence. I know that I need to keep that mind and try to say more encouraging things to people.
