"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?...Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly;" 2 Cor 9:24-26

Take a Seat, Make a Friend

You never know what asking simple questions, sometimes seemingly random ones, may lead to. What would happen if we started talking with strangers and asking them questions? What opportunities would we get? How would it shine our light?

Being Okay

“we are perplexed, but not in despair;” 2 Corinthians 4:8

This is the wonderful thing about belonging to God. He is in control and you do not have to be in despair. This is a fact that I have to hold fast to some days. God is good and God is sovereign. And those are two very comforting thoughts.

2010 Year End Review

As 2010 draws to a close I have spent time thinking over this past year. It has been a good year in many ways. God has worked out amazing experiences for me to have and opened the door for me to do many crazy things. Recently I made a list of all the crazy or new things I have done this year and could still remember. It is quite the list.

Crazy or New Things I’ve Done this Year:

  • Welcomed the year in with Ultimate Frisbee
  • Jumped in Lake Michigan on January 1st
  • Played over 24 hours of Ultimate Frisbee during the first week of the year
  • Got licensed as an EMT-Basic
  • Played Ultimate Frisbee on the ice and in snow many times
  • Hiked 20 miles, 10 of which where through pouring rain with the temperatures being in the low 50s.
  • Hike 40 miles in a day
  • Played Ultimate Frisbee the day after hiking 40 miles
  • Was the STEP Advanced Group Leader
  • Logged over 50 dives in a month
  • received 5 new dive certifications
  • Dove in 55 degree water in a missile silo
  • Got mild hypothermia
  • Saw God work in powerful ways as he enabled me to swim 400m in a faster time than I ever thought I could. (Considering I couldn’t swimming 400m prior to that any time would have been good with me.)
  • Went on a two day backpack trip with two of my brothers which ended up being one day.
  • Almost ran out of water on top of a mountain.
  • Ran into a thunderstorm on top of the same mountain
  • Came upon a forest fire on the other side of the mountain.
  • Was mistaken for being the wife of one of my younger brothers.
  • Hike 44 miles in a day
  • Worked registration for Family Camp (That was a blast)
  • Spent almost half the year in Texas
  • Ran a 5k
  • Wrote a book in a month
  • Shopped for 12 hours in a single day (from 3am to 3pm)
  • High-fived Bango at a Buck’s Game.

Yep, it has been a year of crazy and new experiences. I have enjoyed this year with all it’s craziness and I have seen God work in many ways. He has showed Himself to me in big ways and small ways. He gave me the strength to get through STEP Advanced and all the trials that came with it and He worked out seating and power needs on a train ride. He provided for my every need and brought me through many circumstances. I thank God for all that He has done for me this year. He is amazing and I am once again wowed by how small I am and how much He loves and cares about me.

What has your year looked like? What new experiences have you had? How has God shown Himself to you?

Summer in a Nutshell

Howdy Blog Readers,
It has been a while since I have posted, due to the fact that I have not had access to my blog this summer. This summer has been wonderful. God has taught me much through it; I have grown in many ways; I have experience pretty much every emotion possible. Through it all God has been faithful and blessed me. I can honestly say it has been a wonderful summer, one of the best I’ve ever had, although I don’t want to repeat it.

I spent the first part of the summer leading a program called STEP Advanced. This four week long program teaches young ladies skills in wilderness survival, leadership, Bible study, and more. It is aimed to give young ladies skills needed for ministry and missions. I would highly recommend it for almost every young lady. The group of gals going through this summer were incredible. One of the greatest groups ever. I am glad I could be their leader.

Following that incredible experience, I got to spend three weeks doing dive stuff. Two weeks filled with diving and one week of classroom with some diving. In a lot of ways it was a dream come true. I love diving. Seeing God’s creation underwater is amazing! The time spent underwater and the fellowship with the other young ladies was great.

When the dive stuff was finished, I stayed on at ALERT and helped on staff. It was a blessing to minister there. The encouragement of the other staff ladies and the time spent both in the office and elsewhere around campus was refreshing. I was blessed with an incredible roommate who encouraged and strengthened me in countless ways. I thank God for the time I had there this summer.

That is a brief overview of my summer so far. It is not over yet and I am looking forward to seeing how God will continue to bless, challenge, and grow me. I have learned much this summer and I’d like to share with you the two biggest lessons I’ve learned.

God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called.
Whether it was a trying circumstance during STEP Advanced or a swim I thought I’d drown doing, God got me through it all. He called me to certain task this summer, after I obeyed He gave the strength and grace to accomplish them. What He has gotten you into, He will get you through.

As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.” Psalm 18:30
Countless things happened this summer that seemed like mistakes. They made you stop and go, “Why?” But they were in God’s plan and His way is perfect. He taught me to trust Him and trust that His way is perfect. I have seen the reason for why God did some of what He did and I can say it was the perfect way. Other things still have me wondering, but I trust that “As for God, His way is perfect.” He has a plan for those things and if we let Him, He will work His perfect way.

Going Away

Today I leave to head down to Texas for the summer. I help out with a program called STEP. STEP stands for Skills Training for Emergency Preparedness. We teach young ladies basic emergency skills, everything from plumbing and electrical, to search and rescue and navigation. The main focus of this program is to draw the girls closer to the heart of the Lord. While I am in Texas I will not be able to be blogging. I’ll start posting again sometime late July or August. If you think of me this summer, pray for me, the other STEP leaders, and all the girls coming.

Have a blessed summer and draw closer to the Lord this summer.
