"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?...Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly;" 2 Cor 9:24-26

What are Obstacles?

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

Quite true. When our goal is right and big, nothing can get in the way. That is, as long as our eyes are on that goal. What is the best goal out there? Living each day running the race of life for the Lord. Drawing ever closer to Him. Becoming more and more Christlike. That is the only goal worth living for. There will be smaller goals in that pursuit. But knowing God, knowing His only Son, that is what matters. When our eyes are on Him, all obstacles seem small and insignificant. When we take our eyes off Him, obstacles loom huge looking like mountains. It reminds of Peter walking on water. Keep your eyes on Jesus, on the goal. If they come off, cry out for Jesus to save you and get them back on that goal. He is there. He will save. Trust Him! Keep your eyes on the goal and run!

Love Others Always

“Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. For such a one, this punishment by the majority is enough, so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have I forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” -2 Cor 5:5-11 ESV

“Love someone when they least deserve it, because that’s when they really need it.” -Unknown

“He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.” -1 John 2:9-10 KJV

“For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. …We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” -1 John 3:11, 14.

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” -1 John 3:16

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” -1 John 3:18

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might love through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” -1 John 4:7-11

“And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.” -1 John 4:21

These verses have been floating through my mind the past few days. We do not deserve God’s love. He loved us and sent His Son to die for us while we were sinners, doing what was displeasing to Him. In no way did I deserve that love. But God in His mercy loved me and allowed me to enter into His love and be forgiven. If I have been loved so much should I not love others even when they do not deserve it?

When we love others, who do not deserve it, we show that we really do love them. It communicates a sincere love when you love someone in deed and truth even when the world says you shouldn’t love them, they do not deserve it. Few things show us to be truer disciples of the Master than loving everyone and forgiving those who have wronged us. We can love everyone by letting Christ’s love flow through us. That is the only way to genuinely love others, always.

When God Says, “No.”

Posted by Emma on January 25, 2010 | Filed under: Christianity,Daily Thought

God works things out in amazing ways. A week ago or so, He really showed me that it is best to listen to Him and trust Him. Even when He says “No,” to something I want to do. An opportunity came up that I was interested in pursuing, but God said, “No.” Now I am very glad I did not pursue it. God knew it was not what I should be doing. He said, “No.” I think He also was using that experience to remind me that it is best to trust Him, because this week there is another opportunity to do something that I really wanted to do. God said, “No.” I know that He has my best interest in mind and that I can trust Him. I may not ever know why He said, “No,” to me. But I know it is best.

“A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.” -Charles Spurgeon
