"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?...Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly;" 2 Cor 9:24-26

Good Leaders

“Good leaders must first become good servants”  -Robert Greenleaf

This is very consistent with the Master’s teaching. The greatest is the servant. So if you want to be great, start serving.

Troubler of the Family

“The son of Carmi: Achan, the troubler of Israel, who broke faith in the matter of the devoted thing;” 1 Chronicles 2:7

What a way to go down in history, known as the troubler of Israel. I would not want that description connected to me. I don’t want years from now, someone in my family showing the family photo album to somebody and saying, “This is my relative Emma, she was the troubler of the family.”

If I do not want that description, I must live to make sure it cannot be connected to me. Yet as I think about it, there are two ways one could be a troubler of the family. One is good, one is not. The good way would be that of living for the Lord with your whole heart, even if you are the only one in the family and thus you do things differently and that could end up causing some trouble and getting you the title family troubler. The bad way is to not follow the Lord and fall into sin. That is what Achan did. To make sure that I leave a good mark on history, I must keep my focus on the Lord and live for Him, no matter what the cost. I don’t want to be a troubler like Achan, so I must stay alert and on guard with my focus on the Lord.

Some calendars say that today is Purim. Purim is a Jewish holiday remembering how God saved the Jewish people from Haman’s wicked plot. The book of Esther, which tells the story, is read on Purim. One of the most famous phrases in the book of Esther is the phrase “for such a time as this.” Esther was born for that time. Each one of us is born for such a time as this, the time we live in. God has a special purpose for each of us. If we really believe that and believe that we are born for such a time as this then we should live each day giving all that we have to the tasks ahead of us. Who knows maybe today is the time for which you have been born.

The Faith

What is the purpose of the faith?

This question was posed during a Bible study I attended yesterday. I’ve been contemplating it since then. What is the purpose of the faith? It was generally thought that faith and action went together and the purpose of the faith had to do with walking in righteousness. Is walking in righteousness and actions as far as it goes? Why do we walking in righteousness? As I see it, we walk in righteousness to bring glory to God and because we are followers of a righteous and holy God. Is the purpose of the faith to glorify God? or is there more to it? What do you think?

Something to Think About

“For the way that a person approaches a task influences how he will perform it.”

I wonder how it would effect someone’s life if they kept that in mind throughout the day, how it would change my life? I plan to try remembering that throughout the day and see how it changes things, will you try it with me?
